A change of scene can save a life

solation is one of the most dangerous, and universal, experiences among people who struggle with mental health and/or disability. Left unchecked, it can lead to devastating consequences: studies show that loneliness worsens depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline while increasing risks for chronic pain, cardiovascular disease, and more. Loneliness increases the risk of early death by 30%. It’s as lethal as smoking 15 cigarettes a day—and simple Friendship can cure it.

At Friendship Circle of Wisconsin (FCWI), we are committed to ending the isolation epidemic. We’re replacing loneliness with connection, boredom with engagement, directionlessness with purpose. For over 20 years, we’ve been building a more inclusive Milwaukee, where everyone—regardless of ability—feels valued, supported, empowered, and connected. As we foster friendships, we cultivate community for people otherwise left watching on the sidelines.
